Located in the Atrium of Dugdale Arts Centre
Morris Dancing is a form of English folk dance based on rhythmic stepping in choreographed figures by a group of dancers in costume, usually wearing bell pads on their shins or shoes. They are accompanied by a band or single musician and the dancers use handkerchiefs or sticks.
In September 1974 a group of friends, led by Colin Roker, a local teacher and subsequently head of Winchmore Primary School, started practising in the Enfield Teachers Centre (ETC). This was the formation of Etcetera Morris Men and they have been dancing in and around Enfield, throughout the UK, and even twice in Europe, ever since.
2024 marks their 50th Anniversary! To celebrate, they have joined with Museum of Enfield to co-curate a small display showcasing their costume and history. Look out for their Day of Dance on 14 September across the borough!
